Zealous representation does not have to mean destroying families, and Robin’s vast experience in family law has helped her master an approach to cases that combines committed and passionate representation with a caring, holistic view of the situation.   Robin has been an attorney for more than 20 years and has been solely committed to family law for over 15 of those years.   Robin’s experience spans across many aspects of family law, allowing her to represent her clients in many areas, such as divorce,/legal separation, custody, parenting time, child support, paternity, prenuptial and postnuptial agreement, modifications and enforcement of prior orders, relocations, emancipations, college expense issues, military divorces, grandparent rights, and parenting coordination.  Robin has litigated difficult and complicated divorces, and she is a trained and experienced mediator, as well as a trained and seasoned parenting coordinator.  Additionally, Robin was on the forefront of the Collaborative Law movement in Indiana, where she has been successfully moving cases to the Collaborative Law track and settling them in a manner that helps protect parties’ co-parenting relationship despite the inevitable strain of the divorce process.

Robin’s life experience helps her understand the myriad of issues that can be presented in a family law case.  Robin’s father graduated from the United States Naval Academy, and although the family ultimately settled in Virginia, it was not before she first lived in California, Arkansas, and Florida.  Robin graduated from the College of William & Mary in 1992, then received her law degree in 1995 from Indiana University School of Law - Indianapolis.  Inspired by her father’s service on nuclear submarines, Robin sought a commission in the United States Air Force following graduation from law school and served for 6-years at Eglin Air Force Base in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, as a Captain in the United States Air Force Judge Advocate general (JAG) Corp.  Robin’s years as a JAG officer afforded her a great deal of court-martial/trial experience while also allowed her to work in the areas of employment law, torts, contracts, and general legal assistance for Airmen and their families.  While serving as a Captain, Robin was named the Company Grade Officer of the Quarter for the entire Air Armament Center, 1997-1998, was presented with the Excellence in Briefing Award while serving on the Air Armament Center Commander’s Briefing Team, received the Air Force Organization Award, and earned the Air Force Commendation Medal with One Oak Leaf Cluster.

When Robin received her Honorable discharge in 2001, she began practicing family law at Mack, Niehaus & Mitchell.  She practiced exclusively family law with Mack, Niehaus & Mitchell, then with Mitchell & Associates and Mitchell Law Group, before becoming a principal and founding partner with DeVries + Kelly Law.  Robin’s courtroom experience has allowed her to become proficient in litigating family law cases at all stages.  She is comfortable examining witnesses from all fields, including mental health professionals, financial specialists, parenting coordinators, custody evaluators and guardian ad litems.  No matter if a marital estate is complicated or simple, Robin approaches each case with an eye toward the specific needs of that client, and she uses her many years of experience to advise the client on choices, the law, and possible outcomes.  Robin believes that being available to a client is a critical part of helping that client face difficulties that may arise throughout the process.  Towards that end, Robin’s detailed preparation is coupled with regular client communication and compassion.

While Robin is comfortable with and zealous in litigation, she is also well-versed in alternatives to dispute resolution, where her experience as a mediator enhances her ability to negotiate and settle cases both within and without the mediation setting.  Additionally, Robin  enjoys and is skilled at representing clients in the Collaborative Law arena, something many of her clients have appreciated as it allowed them to achieve successful resolution of their family law situation without going to court.

Robin lives with her husband and two children, is involved in her local school community, volunteers her time at a local hospital, and served for many years on the Homeowner’s Association Board of Directors for her neighborhood.  Robin has spoken at numerous continuing legal education events and continues to be involved with her church.
