Vince Vaughn Charged With DUI in California
September 13, 2018
Indiana movie fans may remember that actor Vince Vaughn was arrested for drunk driving earlier this year. On Sept. 7, California prosecutors announced that the “Wedding Crashers” star has been officially charged in connection with the incident.
On June 10, Vaughn was arrested after being stopped at a sobriety checkpoint set up at the intersection of Artesia Boulevard and Prospect Avenue in Manhattan Beach at approximately 12:40 a.m. According to authorities, officers with the Manhattan Beach Police Department repeatedly asked the 48-year-old to exit his vehicle, but he refused to comply. He was eventually taken into custody and taken to an area jail for processing. He posted bail and was released.
Though Vaughn was not initially charged when he was arrested, prosecutors have now charged him with driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage, operating a vehicle with a .08 or higher blood alcohol content and refusing to comply with a peace officer or to submit to an inspection. He could face nearly a year in county jail if he is convicted. When contacted by media outlets, Vaughn’s spokesperson declined to comment on the case.
Individuals who are convicted of drunk driving can be sentenced to jail time, assessed fines and have their driving privileges suspended or revoked. Because of the harsh consequences involved, it could be beneficial for defendants to retain the services of a criminal defense attorney. An attorney might be able to challenge the results of any blood alcohol tests that were performed, particularly if the results were close to the legal limit. The attorney may also be able to negotiate with prosecutors to reduce the charges, which could substantially lower the associated penalties.
